The Tsukiji Fish Market

Tsukiji is the largest wholesale fish market in Tokyo, and one of the biggest in the world. Plus, there is a tuna auction every morning at 5am which can be watched for free on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A Stay at a Traditional Japanese Inn

Try staying at a traditional Japanese inn, known as a ryokan, where you’ll get to sleep in a futon bed on a tatami floor which is one of the most comfortable sleeping arrangements ever. Ryokan are found all over Japan, especially near natural hot springs, and you can reserve one night which includes a meal of kaiseki ryori plus access the hotel’s hot spring baths and enjoy breakfast the next morning.


Enjoy Japanese Food Which Isn’t Sushi

Don’t forget to try real ramen noodles, breaded deep-fried pork cutlets known as tonkatsu, Japanese curry, grilled chicken on skewers known as yakitori, tempura, soba and udon noodles and much more.

Watch a Sumo Wrestling Match

Sumo wrestling is Japan’s national sport and has been around for centuries. Sumo wrestling respects traditions like certain rituals during the ceremony, and the fact that only men can become wrestlers.


Peace Memorial Park

Hiroshima is where the first atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945. The Peace Memorial Park was created in the centre of the city, in the area that was most gravely affected by the explosion. The Peace Memorial Museum is a must-see visit if you want to learn more about the bomb and its effects.
