Best Action Movies Based on Novels

You can often find a good action movie on one of the many streaming services, and they are often based on best-selling novels. If you love reading action and adventure books on bookvus, then you might also love the movies. Here are some of the top action movies based on novels.

Die Hard

The movie that spawned many sequels, is often the hot topic of debate as to whether it is a Christmas movie or not. Released in 1988, it was the franchise that made Bruce Willis a movie star. It was based on the book Nothing Lasts Forever, by Roderick Thorp.

Casino Royale

One of the most famous action heroes to come from a book is James Bond. All of Ian Flemmings’s novels which can be found on bookvus were used, with new movies written in the same style. Casino Royale has spawned two movies, one parody in the 1960s with David Niven, and the second in 2006 which introduced new James Bond actor Daniel Craig.

The Bourne Identity

Based on the book of the same name by Robert Ludlum, Matt Damon took on the lead role as Jason Bourne. The movie has since led to other Bourne books being made into sequels.

Clear and Present Danger

Tom Clancy is another writer who has had many of his novels developed into movies. Clear and Present Danger has Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan who was also played by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt For Red October.

Must Read Action and Adventure Novels

There’s a whole world of books filled with plenty of action and adventure just waiting to be discovered. Here are three action and adventure novels that are well worth the read and sure to get your blood pumping.

The Once and Future King by T. H. White. Based upon Le Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory, White takes many liberties with the classic story of Camelot and adds a certain amount of humour to it as he re-imagines the tale to better reflect the post WWII era in which it was written. The usual cast of characters are still there, however, from Merlyn to young Arthur, not to mention Queen Guinevere and Lancelot.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. The perfect combination of history and folklore, Kostove combines the fictional Dracula and the very real Vlad the Impaler for her novel. The Historian follows a sixteen year old girl as the discovery of ominous letters found in an ancient book belonging to her father leads her on an unexpected adventure filled with secrets and mystery related to her father, her mother, and an evil hidden in the depths of history.

The Map of Salt and Stars by Jennifer Zeynab Joukhadar. A tale of duality, telling the story of a modern-day Syrian refugee seeking safety and a medieval adventurer apprenticed to a legendary mapmaker, expertly woven together in Joukhadar’s debut novel.
