Great adventure book quotes to lift your mood

If you are needing a little pick me up for your mood, there is no better solution than a book. Here are some uplifting quotes from adventure books to help lift your spirits, curated by the Bookvus review team.

"I shan't be lonely now. I was lonely; I was afraid. But the emptiness and the darkness are gone; when I turn back into myself now I am like a child going at night into a room where there's always a light."

―Edith Wharton, The Age of Innocence

"It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together as it does to fall apart."

―Suzanne Collins, Mockingjay

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live."

―J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

"Not all those who wander are lost."

―J. R. R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

"Make not your thoughts your prisons."

―William Shakespeare, Anthony and Cleopatra

"You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want. There's still lots of good in the world."

—S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders

"I want you to remember who you are, despite the bad things that are happening to you. Because those bad things aren't you. They are just things that happen to you. You need to accept that who you are and the things that happen you, are not one and the same."

—Colleen Hoover, Hopeless

"Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could."

―Louise Erdrich, The Painted Drum LP

"There were still the periods of darkness, the spasms of panic; but now he knew they were not real and because he knew this he overcame them."

―V.S. Naipaul, A House for Mr. Biswas

"That is all I want in life: for this pain to seem purposeful."

―Elizabeth Wurtzel, Prozac Nation

"But still, I find the need to remind myself of the temporariness of a day, to reassure myself that I got through yesterday, I'll get through today."

―Gayle Forman, Where She Went

"Do not let the hero in your soul parish, in lonely frustration, for the life you deserved but never have been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours."

―Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

"Nothing can cure the soul but the senses, just as nothing can cure the senses but the soul."

―Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

"How many times have I failed before? How many times have I stood here like this, in front of my own image, in front of my own person, trying to convince him not to be scared, to go on, to get out of this rut? How many times before I finally convince myself, how many private, erasable deaths will I need to die, how many self-murders is it going to take, how many times will I have to destroy myself before I learn, before I understand?"

―Charles Yu, How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe

"I have been bent and broken, but — I hope — into a better shape."

—Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

Movies That Became Sensational Books

In most cases, a book will come along that captures the interest of the public, then a movie company will come in and buy the rights. This then becomes a movie based on the book. However, sometimes, this process is reversed, and the book follows the movie. These are some of the hit movies that became best-selling books.

2001: A Space Odyssey

Many people believe that the book written by Arthur C. Clarke is what the movie is based upon. However, the movie is based on a short story by Clarke called The Sentinel. Director Stanly Kubrick worked with Clarke on the novel and both were released at the same time. The movie went on to be one of the all-time classics of cinema.

Total Recall by Piers Anthony

The movie was originally based on the short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. However, after the movie, it was turned into a full-length book by Piers Anthony. The book also answers many of the questions left unanswered in the movie.

The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro and Daniel Kraus

One of the interesting parts of the movie was that the two main characters couldn’t speak and so relied on visual images and direction. The book was widely praised for being a good adaptation of the movie in which a mute woman falls for an amphibious lifeform in the lab where she works.

Find out more about movies that became books by visiting www.bookvus.com.

Top Books That Have Been Self-Published

Some authors believe that self-publishing your work isn’t the best way to get it seen by people. There can also be some negativity from readers who think that self-published works are bad. However, this list will show you that there have been some amazing books that have come from self-publishers. Here are some of the top self-published books in recent years.

Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James

This erotic novel was originally part of a story called Master of the Universe but was eventually rewritten and published as an ebook. Even without a lot of publicity, the book took off and went viral. It was then offered as a print-on-demand book and eventually taken up by Vintage Books. It has now sold 125 million copies.

The Martian by Andy Weir

Originally, this book was in serial form on Weir’s website, but he then decided to self publish it because he was being turned down by agents in the book world. He published it to Amazon in 2011 and it quickly went to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list. Later followed a book deal and a major movie blockbuster.

Still Alice by Lisa Genova

Dr. Lisa Genova is an American Neuroscientist who discovered that a lot of stories about Alzheimer’s came from the caregiver’s point of view rather than the patient, so decided to open this book. After a year of trying to get an agent, she started an aggressive publicity campaign which eventually found her a publisher. The book went on to appear in the New York Times Bestseller List for 40 weeks.
